The Green River formation of Colorado and Utah is a series of lakebeds of middle Eocene age that occupy two broad, shallow, simple, structural basins--the Piceance Creek basin in northwestern Colorado and the Uinta basin in northeastern Utah. The ancient lakes served as a basin for the accumulation. magnetic results are sumrnarized from a variety of moat-flll lacustrine and pyroclastic rocks in the cores that penetrated approxirnately the lower half of the creede Formation. The results are sr,rpplcrnented by paleomagnetic data fiom volcanic rocks tl'rat underlie or cap the creede Formation. An earlier prog-.

MacLACHLAN U.S. Geological Survey Denver, Colorado INTRODUCTION The stratigraphic nomenclature applied in various parts of west-ern Colorado, northwestern New Mexico, and a small part of east- central Utah is summarized in the accompanying chart (fig. 1).

Jan 01,  · Compositions of organic matter in the bituminous shale accumulated under anoxic conditions and in the underlying clay deposited in aerated basin are noticeably different. Organic matter (OM) of the clay is depleted in hydrogen and kerogen of the clay during pyrolysis produces times less aliphatic hydrocarbons than kerogen, which is separated from the bituminous shale, and dozens of Cited by: “OF History, Geology, and Environmental Setting of Selected Mines near Creede, Rio Grande National Forest, Mineral County, Colorado.” Mining. The Oligocene Creede Formation is the sedimentary fill of the Creede caldera in the Tertiary San Juan volcanic field in southern Colorado. Scientific drill core and outcrop studies of Creede strata allow an evaluation of the post-collapse sedimentary environments present within a caldera.
